Frequently asked questions
Which IFC versions are supported?
IFC2x3, IFC4 and IFC4x3. You can merge files with different versions: older files are upgraded to the newest version among your files before merging, so the merged file uses one schema. Your uploaded files are not changed.
Are GUIDs, properties and the spatial structure kept?
Yes. Every element keeps its GlobalId, its property sets and its own site, building and storey hierarchy. The models are combined under a single IfcProject. Spatial structures are not combined, so two models that each have a site will show two sites in the merged file.
Do my models need the same units and coordinates?
No. Length units are converted to match the largest model. If the models are georeferenced differently, they are moved into the coordinate system of the largest model so they line up. Models without georeferencing are placed by their local origin, so export them from the same shared coordinates.
Can I merge IFC files from Revit, ArchiCAD and Tekla?
Yes. mergeIFC reads standard IFC files, whichever program exported them, so you can combine an architectural model from Revit or ArchiCAD with a structural model from Tekla Structures. There is no software to install: it runs in the browser.
What is the file size limit?
On the free plan, each file can be up to 50 MB and you can merge up to 4 files at a time. Paid plans have no file size limit and merge up to 10 files at a time.
Are my files stored, and for how long?
Files are stored on servers in the European Union and deleted automatically 24 hours after upload. They are used only to perform the merge. To have them deleted sooner, email info@mergeIFC.com.
Read the privacy policyWhat happens if a merge fails?
The merge is marked as failed, and if you entered an email address you get a notice by email. Most failures come from an input file that cannot be read, for example a damaged or incomplete export. Export the file again from your modelling software and retry. If it keeps failing, email info@mergeIFC.com.
Is mergeIFC free?
Yes. The free plan needs no account: merge up to 4 files at a time and get the merged file by email, within daily and monthly limits. Paid plans add instant download, larger files and session history.
